Leaving a Gift in Your Will

How a small gift in your Will can make a big difference to people with disabilities

Why leave a gift in my Will?
By leaving a gift in your Will, you have the opportunity to change the lives of individuals living with a disability enabling them to develop their skills so that they can achieve their goals and dreams. Gifts from Wills continue to be the largest private source of income to Northcott and are vital to ensure the securityustainability of Northcott’s services for people with disabilities and their families.

By leaving Northcott a gift in your Will, you can help us create a brighter future for children with disabilities and their families and know that your decision will leave a lasting legacy for the future generations.

Types of Gifts
A gift in your Will can be in the form of money, real estate, a percentage of the residue of your estate, or even something personal like jewellery or a painting. Another form of deferred giving is making Northcott the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

Making a Will should be one of the most important decisions you make. In Australia, over 30% of people die without leaving a Will. This means that others are left to make the decisions regarding your assets.

The May Gibbs Legacy
Many have been inspired to give in this way, like Australia’s supreme storyteller May Gibbs. When she died in 1969, May left a legacy to children with a disability in the form of royalties from the copyright of her work. These were to be shared equally between Northcott (then known as The NSW Society for Crippled Children) and another charity.
